NEAT STREETS MIAMI IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR ITS 3RD ANNUAL STREET TREE MATCHING GRANT

In the aftermath of trees lost to Hurricane Irma, Neat Streets Miami remains relentless in the Million Trees Miami goal of 1 million trees planted in Miami-Dade County by 2020 and a 30 percent tree canopy.

Today, Neat Streets Miami announced the third cycle of its “Street Tree Matching Grant Program,”aimed at engaging municipalities, non-profits and organizations in planting native or Florida-friendly trees throughout Miami-Dade County.

“Although our County’s tree canopy was impacted during Hurricane Irma, we are working to rebuild our green infrastructure,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “Trees not only shade and beautify our world-class community, but they are also essential to the environment and our livability.”

“Re-greening Miami-Dade after Hurricane Irma should be a priority initiative for everyone. Neat Street Miami’s Street Tree Matching Grant provides an opportunity for various government municipalities, non-profits and community groups to help support our tree revitalization effort,” said Neat Streets Miami Chairman and Miami-Dade County Commissioner Dennis C. Moss, District 9.

The Street Tree Matching Grant application is easy to complete and available here. Deadline for submissions is Friday, December 22, 2017, by 5 p.m. For more information, contact Jennifer Llorente atgreenup@miamidade.gov or 305-755-7849.

Matching grants will range from $5,000 up to $25,000. Applicants are encouraged to consider comprehensive approach to tree planting that includes maintenance and outreach plans. Finally, preference will be given to areas with low-to-moderate income populations, and/or with 20 percent or less tree canopy.

Made possible through the County’s Tree Trust Fund, the grant award aims to leverage the County’s street tree program by encouraging investments on County or local streets. The 2018 grant funding totals $250,000, a 20 percent increase from last year.
