CAR ACCIDENT INJURIES: WHAT YOU MUST DO

Car Accident Injuries Can Be Very Tricky

In order to avoid any health problems and to protect your legal rights, you have to be informed about the importance of monitoring your injuries after a car accident. Even if you were involved in a minor accident, injury symptoms may not appear right away.

Adrenaline: The Magical Chemical

When confronted with a traumatic event or with a threatening environment, our body, more exactly our adrenal glands, release adrenaline. Adrenaline is a stress hormone which prepare our body for fight-or-flight reaction, blocking the pain resulted from an injury and giving us energy. Even if you feel fine after a car accident, that doesn’t mean you are fine. After the level of adrenaline decreases, the pain could set in.

Concussions

Concussions are the most common types of traumatic brain injury. The cerebrospinal fluid is a liquid that covers the brain and protects it from minor trauma. This fluid however can’t absorb sever impacts, like a violent brain strike inside of your skull. Similar to other car accident injuries, concussion symptoms may not appear right away. Concussion symptoms may include disorientation, nausea, dizziness, headaches, memory problems, blurred vision, lack of energy, abnormal sleep patterns and even convulsions.

Soft Tissue Injuries

Soft tissue injuries involve muscles, tendons and ligaments damages. The most common type of soft tissue car accident injury is called “whiplash“. “Whiplash” occurs when the head is suddenly and forcefully thrown forward and then back, resulting in neck muscles damages.
This kind of injuries are not visible on X-rays, making them hard to diagnose and document. Symptoms associated with them include pain, swelling and mobility difficulties.

What you should do

If you suffered a car accident, even a minor one, you should see a doctor immediately. This way he/she could run the right tests, give you medical treatment and advise if you should monitor symptoms of potential injuries.

Receiving medical care and treatment is also important if you will make an injury claim. Make sure you are not waiting too long before searching medical attention because the insurance adjuster may say that you weren’t too injured after all.

Before signing any paper that the insurance company is giving you, you should wait long enough so you can be sure that every injury from the car accident have fully manifested. You won’t be able to go back to the company and pay your medical treatment.

Don’t forget that if you encounter any difficulties regarding insurance companies you can always ask an experienced lawyer to help you.
